Revenge Of A Not-So-Pretty Girl

8/23/15- I'm someone who definitely seems to work better with deadlines...you know, the procrastinator all through high school who would know she had a five page paper due, but not start on it till two nights before. Well, my latest deadline was August 10th, a week before the start of the fifth season of production on the ABC Family sitcom Baby Daddy, where I work. Television production days can be long, up to fourteen hours sometimes, so I knew I wanted to get the last chapters on my new novel over and done with and off to my agent before that. My first day back would actually be the 17th, but I thought it would be nice to have a week to decompress.  Didn't make that date, but still happy to have gotten it out by the 17th.  Now is the scary part, when you sit and wait for the verdict on what you've written to come in.  And things are a little different with this book, which I've titled The Movie Star In My Room, because my agent Katie will be the only other person to read it aside from me.  Usually I hand it off to a few friends, get their notes and opinions, do another edit and then send it to Katie. But I felt I was so behind, I threw caution to the wind.  And so I wait, petrified.  No matter how many times you do this, it's still nerve-wracking when you have to send your baby out for judgement.  You don't want someone looking at it and calling it ugly!

In Revenge Of A Not-So-Pretty Girl, some of Faye Andrews actions are ugly, but they reflect how she sees herself. Will one of her ugliest actions ever--mugging an eighty year old woman--which almost leads to unspeakable tragedy, help lead her to change?

Revenge Of A Not-So-Pretty Girl (A Junior Library Guild selection & American Library Association nominee for Best Young Adult Fiction 2013) is told through the witty, tormented voice of fourteen-year-old Faye, a young teen living in 1984 Brooklyn, New York, who copes with her mother's abuse by stealing with her friends.  But when robbing an elderly woman almost turns to murder, she gains an opportunity to learn new truths about life.

If you're in the New York area, pop into Books Of Wonder at 18 West 18th Street between 5th & 6th Avenues and pick up a signed copy.  It's a lovely independent bookstore (a dying breed, huh?). If you're in the LA area, get your copy from another great independent store, Vroman's in Pasadena. Or you can click onto the Random House link below for more information on where you can purchase your copy of Revenge Of A Not-SO-Pretty Girl so you can follow Faye on her journey of self-discovery.

That's my girl, Renee.  She's crazy.  We had to dress like we were from Jersey.  I think she nailed it.  My apologies to all the fine folks of that fine state
Thanks for showing the book love, Tahj Mowry

I love Cedric The Entertainer.  I love him even more for holding up a copy of Revenge.

REVIEWS:
Here are samples of some of the great write-ups the novel has been getting:

Kirkus Magazine (One of the biggest book review magazines & notorious for being tough)--
"This exhilarating, generous-hearted tale with a smart, funny, caustically observant protagonist is about so much more than revenge: distinguishing what matters from what doesn’t, taking risks, making mistakes and paying for them.
Like Siobhan Vivian in The List, Blythe explores issues of physical appearance in rare depth. Some mistakes aren’t fixable, Faye learns, but she’ll keep trying to fix them anyway.
Solidly grounded in the gritty realities of daily life, Faye's discoveries feel earned.  A compelling and believable journey."

Seventeen
Magazine-- "What to read this summer.  New releases you won't be able to put down!

The buzz: Revenge Of A Not-So Pretty Girl is about urban life and unlikely alliances—it's definitely a page turner!"
